Beautiful down to the tips of your hair - here's how

Arginine

The vasodilatory property of the amino acid has a positive effect on hair growth - this has been proven in studies: Arginine forms a nitric oxide that opens the potassium channels of the cells. This improves blood flow to the roots, which optimizes growth.

Biotin

The nutrient for healthy and shiny hair is also known as vitamin H. If there is a deficiency, it becomes thin and brittle.

Ceramides

Are lipids, i.e. fats, which act as a cementing substance to strengthen the hair cuticle. As an "ingredient" in shampoos, conditioners or masks, they can replenish brittle areas. They also protect against harmful environmental influences such as UV rays, air pollution or cold temperatures.

Detangler

Det-what? The word comes from the English and means "detangler". This is the name given to brushes with flexible plastic bristles that effectively detangle the hair.

Detangling

A special cutting technique used by hairdressers. Two different results can be achieved: For thick hair, individual strands are thinned out with the thinning shears; for thin hair, the technique adds volume to the look with supporting hair.

Freehand Painting

Foil strands? Totally outdated! Today, we "paint", i.e. the hairdresser brushes the highlighting color into the hair freehand, foil is no longer used. The result is very natural, as if kissed by the sun.

Yellow tinge

The horror of every blonde. After contact with chlorine or salt water, unsightly discoloration can occur.

Highlights

This is the technical term for "lighter strands". They are often placed around the face, which flatters the complexion and gives a more youthful appearance. The opposite is "lowlights", i.e. darker highlights in blonde hair.

Ions

Fight the protruding, electrically charged hairs (frizz)! With ion technology, the warm air from hair dryers is enriched with negative atoms - ions - to neutralize the charge. Plus: the hair dries faster.

Jojoba oil

Extracted from the fruit of the jojoba bush, it is rich in vitamins A and E and makes the hair supple and silky.

Keratin

The fiber protein makes up 90 percent of our hair and gives it resilience and elasticity. It is protected by the cuticle. If this is damaged, the keratin can also be attacked. Today, there are many shampoos and treatments that restore keratin to the hair.

Layage

Ombré is over, now comes layage. For this form of coloring, the hair is spread out in a fan shape on a table and colored strand by strand. The hairdresser can separate individual sections perfectly to achieve great results.

Melanin

Blonde? Brunette? Black? Or red-haired? The body's own pigment is responsible for hair color. It occurs in humans in two variants: brownish-blackish (eumelanin) and yellowish-red (pheomelanin). Both are also responsible for the coloration of the skin and eyes.

Niacinamide

The protein is also known as vitamin B3. Added to hair care products such as shampoos and conditioners, it penetrates deep into the hair fiber, moisturizes and strengthens it. It also increases the volume of the hair, conjuring up more volume and structure.

Olaplex

From now on, your hair will be cared for during coloring at the hairdresser. Olaplex is a three-stage salon program that repairs the sulphur bridges in the hair that have been damaged by coloring, environmental influences and styling. These provide bounce, elasticity and brilliant shine.

Passé

Is a synonym for strand and refers to a section of hair about two centimetres wide. This division is useful when straightening or twisting in papilots, for example, because you have to proceed passé by passé to achieve a perfect result.

Cross braiding

Braids in the hair are in. And the Oktoberfest is just around the corner. The technique involves braiding the hair from left to right or vice versa across the head and along the side. The ends are either pinned up or worn over the shoulder.

Rosemary oil

This essential oil was already in the beauty cupboard of the ancient Greeks. It stimulates hair growth, has an anti-inflammatory effect and is also effective against dandruff.

Shag

This term refers to a heavily graduated fringe cut with shorter top hair. It works for all hair lengths and textures. The look is not complicated: Simply shake the hair and everything is in place - without any styling.

Tallow

Is a fat that is produced in the sebaceous glands of the scalp and coats the scalp and hair with a thin protective layer to prevent dehydration. People with fine hair in particular tend to have overactive sebaceous glands, which can cause it to become greasy more quickly.

Undercut

A hairstyle in which parts of the hair are completely shaved off in several places (neck, sides). These areas can either be shown off or covered by the remaining hair. If necessary, this region can also be dyed a different color than the rest of the head. Very hip and trendy.

Virgin hair

Refers to hair that has been left completely natural and untouched by the hairdresser. In other words, a head of hair that has never been colored or otherwise chemically treated (permed, straightened, etc.). The word creation is derived from the English word "virgin". Less is really no longer possible.

Wheat protein

The protein obtained from wheat germ is rich in unsaturated fatty acids. These make fine hair more manageable and strengthen the hair structure by repairing damaged areas. A stressed and damaged mane can thus be strengthened and repaired from the inside.

Xylose

Temperatures can rise here. The polysaccharide not only protects the hair fibers from heat, but also forms a protective film that seals care substances in the hair. The active ingredient is therefore very often integrated into heat protection products.

Y-hair

This is the name given to a hairstyle in which a strand of hair is separated on the left and right above the ears and then tied together at the back of the head. This makes it look like a y-shape from behind. The lower front strands are allowed to play softly around the face.

Zinc

Last but not least: The most important trace element helps with brittle, dull and damaged hair. It strengthens the scalp and effectively prevents inflammation. It is also a real miracle weapon in the fight against stubborn dandruff.
