About Paula Begoun
In the States, the American is known simply as "the Beauty Cop". Due to her own serious skin problems (acne), she has made it her mission for years to thoroughly examine all popular brands for their ingredients. In her probably best-known
book, the beauty bible "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me", she ranks popular products according to their effectiveness. In 1995, the beauty expert decided to launch her own line based on her years of research into
years of research into effective ingredients, she decided to launch her own line of cosmetic products. Only substances with proven effectiveness are used that make the skin look younger and more radiant. They are also designed to counteract wrinkles, spots and other problems. The range now comprises more than 125 products and is sold online at www.paulaschoice.de in over 40 countries. And these are Paula's tips:
You can trust these active ingredients
Retinol (vitamin A) stimulates natural cell renewal, reduces wrinkles and skin discoloration. Vitamin C is a super antioxidant, it protects against skin damage caused by environmental pollution such as exhaust fumes, smoke etc. by neutralizing free radicals. Peptides and niacinamide are collagen boosters and combat volume loss. A good mixture of protective and regenerating active ingredients is always important. And remember: Your skincare routine is only ever as good as your overall beauty routine (cleanser, toner, exfoliator, serums, moisturizer, sunscreen, etc.). A single power ingredient cannot replace it.
Do not use mechanical exfoliators
The small granules in many exfoliating products, nowadays often of natural origin (such as ground apricot kernels), irritate the skin as they cause tiny injuries to the surface. Creams with fruit or salicylic acid, which also have an exfoliating and cell-renewing effect, are much gentler.
Natural cosmetics
It is not better than conventional cosmetics - just because something grows on trees or comes from the earth does not make it more suitable than a chemical substance. On the contrary! Natural ingredients are often unpredictable in their concentration and are not at all recommended for sensitive skin, as they are highly allergenic.
Your skin really doesn't need a night cream
There is no scientific evidence that the skin needs different care products at night than during the day. The only difference between your day and night cream should be the sun protection factor (UVA and UVB). Even if this has long been believed: It has been proven that the skin does not regenerate better or faster during sleep than during the day, self-repair is equally effective at any time of day. The skin only needs appropriate "help" from the most suitable ingredients, which should therefore be precisely tailored to your skin type.
Tubes and dispensers are often better
Many of the modern ingredients - such as antioxidants, plant extracts, vitamins and cell-communicating substances like retinol - can be weakened in their effect by oxygen from the air. So: if in doubt, prefer tubes and dispensers.
Expensive is not always better
It all depends on the composition. High-priced products are not automatically "better" for your skin than cheaper ones, they do not contain "better" active ingredients. Often you only have to pay for expensive marketing concepts and advertising with a star. Pay attention to the list of ingredients.
Avoid irritating fragrances
Beauty products are often scented for the "feel-good effect when applied". Sensitive skin in particular often cannot tolerate this. Avoid essential fragrance oils such as lavender, lime, bergamot or rosemary etc.
"Anti-ageing" is not a skin type
Don't just base your decision on whether a product is suitable for "mature skin". What is important is whether you have dry, oily or sensitive skin. Do you have problems such as allergies or even diseases such as rosacea? If you start taking care of your skin in good time according to your skin type, you won't need any
50 no "anti-wrinkle" care.
Eye cream? You don't need it!
When it comes to reducing wrinkles and moisturizing, there is nothing to prevent you from using your normal face cream with good, effective ingredients in the sensitive eye area. The small, usually very expensive mini tube is a pure invention of the beauty industry. Your day cream (if you are using the right one) also contains a sun protection factor, which is particularly important for the delicate skin around the eyes, as this is where the skin first starts to develop wrinkles. And, strangely enough, eye creams with a sun protection factor are rarely produced by the cosmetics industry.
