Shaving
How it works: Whether legs, armpits or intimate areas - wet shaving is the most popular depilation method. No wonder, it's quick, painless and super close thanks to the flexible shaving heads. Moisten the skin beforehand and apply a moisturizing shaving gel - this allows the blades to glide better over the skin and reduces the risk of cuts. Then shave vertically, never horizontally. Tip: shaving against the direction of growth is more thorough, shaving in the direction of growth is gentler.
Disadvantage: You have to shave almost daily to keep stubble-free. And: Sensitive skin quickly becomes irritated and can react with small pimples or itchy redness.
Waxing
This is how it works: When waxing, you apply the wax in the direction of growth, place strips of fabric on top, press them on briefly and tear them off again with a jerk against (!) the direction of growth. Although this hurts, the hair removal method is very thorough and the treated areas of the body remain stubble-free for up to six weeks. Afterwards, soothe the skin with body powder or aloe vera gel. If you lose heart: In waxing studios, depiladoras eliminate the hairs as painlessly as possible.
Disadvantage: The hair must be at least 0.5 centimetres long for the wax to grip. The waxing method can also be very painful - especially on sensitive skin.
Sugaring
How it works: With this depilation method, the beautician brushes a lukewarm paste of sugar, water and lemon juice onto the skin and plucks it off again in (!) the direction of growth after drying. This method is therefore much less painful than waxing. What's more, the hair only needs to be 0.3 centimetres long. Also good: as all ingredients are of natural origin and the sugar paste only attaches to the hairs (i.e. does not stick to the skin), sugaring is also suitable for allergy sufferers and sensitive skin. Beauty effect: We are hair-free for up to four weeks.
Disadvantage: As with waxing, there is a risk of ingrown hairs growing back.
Epilating
How it works: Rotating mini tweezers are used to pull out the hairs along with the root - and it pulls! Important: Guide the epilator slowly and without pressure at a right angle to the skin and against the hair growth. It's great that the new devices can even be used in the shower, as wet epilation is less painful. This is because the pores widen under water, making it easier to remove the hair. The result is smooth skin that lasts for a whole month. Do you also epilate? Then weekly exfoliation is a must - because it prevents new hairs from growing in.
Disadvantage: Not for those who are sensitive to pain. In addition, the hairs must be at least half a centimeter long, otherwise the tweezers cannot grip them.
Permanent depilation method
Hairfree light technology
With Hairfree's permanent depilation method, which can be individually adjusted to skin and hair type, light pulses are emitted onto the skin through a sapphire crystal. This permanently removes the hair roots and their follicles without damaging the skin. Top: The whole process is painless and you lie relaxed on a treatment table. However, as the hair can only be treated during its growth phase, several cyclical repetitions are necessary. More information: www.hairfree.com
