Laser treatment of the genital area: These are the risks
Many women want permanent hair removal in the bikini area or even completely. This is possible with IPL treatment. But what are the risks of having the intimate area lasered? We explain!

Laser intimate area: What are the risks of permanent hair removal?
IPL or laser treatments are actually painless. However, they should be carried out professionally to avoid burns. You should expect slight redness and swelling, but this should disappear by itself a few hours after the treatment. So if you have no experience with IPL devices for home use, it is better to have hair removal carried out by trained staff first.

Is IPL treatment suitable for everyone?
Basically yes, but people with very light hair and light skin may have to wait a while for the results. The greater the color contrast, the higher the chances of success, as IPL treatment converts light via melanin to affect the hair follicle. This is intended to prevent the root from producing new hair. It may be that redheads or blondes simply need more treatments.
Laser intimate area: How many applications are necessary and when do you see the first results?
As described above, this depends on hair color and skin, but also on hair growth - our hormones have a significant influence on this. It is important to know that IPL can only work on hair that is in the active growth phase. On average, it takes six to eight applications to permanently remove around two thirds of the hair. However, you should already see a difference after about three applications, the hair should be sparser! As IPL devices for home use do not have the same performance as in a beauty salon, you should expect a longer period of time.
Follow-up treatments are therefore necessary at regular intervals, approximately every four to 12 weeks. However, once the hair root has been destroyed, no more hair will grow back. Tip: If you are not satisfied with hair removal in a beauty salon after a few treatments, please say so. It's your money! Sometimes the treatment itself simply needs to be adjusted.

How much does an IPL treatment cost?
Of course, it is impossible to say exactly how much it will cost because it depends on the extent of the hair removal and the beauty institute in question. However, you can expect to pay around 130 euros per treatment for complete hair removal in the intimate area.
How long does the treatment last?
Actually forever, but as described above, hair can always grow back around the lasered areas, which is why you have to re-treat if necessary.
IPL devices to laser the intimate area at home
If you buy an IPL device for home use, you have the one-off purchase costs - prices range between 50 and 500 euros. The Aminzer product, for example, is available for around 70 euros, while the Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 is available for around 380 euros. Find out more about the product and make sure that you can return it if it does not work or you are not satisfied.
What is IPL and what is the difference between IPL and laser?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a further development of laser technology - hair is to be permanently removed by physically converting light into heat. In contrast to lasers, however, several light spectra are used and the light does not work quite as deeply. IPL and laser therefore both remove hair with light - but there is a technological difference: as with laser, IPL treatment also converts light via melanin to destroy the hair follicle and hair bulb. The hair then falls out after a few days. In contrast to lasers, IPL has a broad light spectrum, which allows it to work over a larger area. Treatment with IPL is therefore faster, as laser treatment works on specific points.

How often do you need to have the bikini area lasered?
As a rule, around 10 sessions at intervals of 2-3 months are necessary to permanently remove the hair. However, even after treatment has been completed, it may be necessary to re-treat the bikini area. An annual refresher treatment is recommended. Individual factors such as the strength of hair growth and skin condition play a role. Patience and perseverance are important to achieve long-term results.
