Why use foundation at all?

When does a painting become particularly beautiful? Correct, when the canvas and foundation are of particularly good quality. Think of your skin as a canvas, eye shadow, lipstick and co. are the colors. In order for these to be shown to their best advantage, the skin also needs a primer to look even, optimally moisturized, youthfully fresh and radiant. But even women who prefer the nude look and apply make-up very sparingly cannot do without a suitable foundation. After all, it is important that the skin looks as flawless as possible, especially with this look - after all, no woman likes to show off large pores, uneven skin and red veins. Apply a little mascara and minimalists will feel well-groomed and groomed with just two products.

Finding the right tone

Step 1: Determine your skin undertone

Are you more the warm type with golden brown, dark brown or black hair and brown or green eyes? Or are you the cool type with light to medium brown hair, light green, hazel, gray or blue eyes, natural blonde or red hair, a pale complexion and freckles? Which make-up suits you best depends on your skin type. The wrist is an excellent tool for determining skin subtypes.

If you have green or olive-colored veins, then you are the warm type and need make-up with yellowish tones. In the stores, the make-up names are "Honey" or "Sand", for example. If the veins shimmer blue or purple, you are the cool type and need a foundation with pink undertones. In this case, the foundations are called "Natural rose" or "Rose beige". Incidentally, most women in this country are the cool type. Those with both bluish and green veins have a neutral peach undertone.

Step 2: Find the foundation shade

Once you have taken the first step, the next step is to find the right color of foundation. The shade must blend in with your natural skin tone, as a foundation should optimize the complexion and not tan it. What's more, a shade that is too dark makes you look older. Try about three different shades on your cheeks and wear them in daylight if possible. The color that is no longer visible is the correct one for your skin tone.

Which texture is right?

Liquid foundation or compact cream, stick form or cushion (make-up cushion soaked in foundation) - choose the formula according to your needs. As a general rule, a liquid product is more suitable for dry skin, while a stick is better for normal skin.

How to apply it

Apply the foundation starting in the center and working outwards. Whether you do this with your fingers, a brush or a sponge is basically irrelevant.

The classic: liquid foundation

What is it? The textures range from very light and light-reflecting to matt and highly opaque. They can also be applied in a variety of ways: with your fingers, a brush or a sponge.
Who is it suitable for? There is a suitable product for every need. Try it out!

Sets and mattifies: Transparent powder

What is it? A transparent, often loose powder that contains no color pigments. It therefore adapts to every skin tone, has a mattifying effect and makes the make-up look last longer.
Who is it suitable for? For women with combination skin (only apply to the T-zone) or oily skin.

The light all-rounders: BB & CC creams

What are they? Formerly called "tinted day cream", today's "blemish balms" and "color correctors" have additional anti-aging benefits.
Who are they suitable for? For women who are in a hurry.

The ideal travel companion: foundation stick

What is it? An opaque foundation in stick form that you can twist out. The creamy texture is applied directly to the face and then worked in with your fingers or a sponge. Because the formulation has a firm consistency, the product can also be used as a concealer.
Who is it suitable for? For anyone who appreciates 2-in-1 products and for whom application should be quick and easy. The stick fits into any handbag or cosmetics bag and can even be carried in hand luggage as it is not liquid and the 100 ml rule does not apply here

The complexion flatterer: Cushion foundation

What is it? A liquid formulation that is stored in a bubble cushion and packaged in a jar. The light texture is applied with the enclosed tassel.
Who is it suitable for? For women who want a particularly soft result.

The naturally soft one: Mineral powder foundation

What is it? It looks like a loose powder, feels like a smooth cream and is silky-soft to apply. Mineral foundation contains nothing but minerals, no chemicals and no fragrances. It is applied to the face with a brush. The mineral SPF 15 protects the skin from UVA and UVB rays.
Who is it suitable for? Especially for women with sensitive and acne-prone skin, as it contains no irritants (chalk, waxes).

The accentuator: Highlighter

What is it? The shimmering texture - whether liquid or creamy - is used to create highlights on the face (above the cheekbones, under the brows, etc.). The technique is now also known as "strobing".
Who is it suitable for? For trendy women who like to put themselves in the limelight and who devote a lot of time to their make-up. "Naked Skin Highlighting Fluid", extremely light formula.

The bronzers: Bronzer

What is it? Bronzers are great for conjuring up a touch of summer on the face. Use a powder to accentuate the transition from the forehead to the hairline and the sides of the face and apply to the cheeks, bridge of the nose and chin. If you are using multi-colored bronzers, apply the darkest shade to the temples and cheeks. You can also use some bronzer as eye shadow. Then apply mascara to your eyelashes and lipstick in a light, shimmering summer shade - and your beach look is complete. Important: If you have a generous summer tan, you can work well with dark colors. The lighter your skin tone, the lighter and more sparingly you should use bronzer.
Who is it suitable for? For all women who want to prolong the summer and love the beach look or feel a little pale at the moment.

For professionals: contouring

What is it: Contouring (contouring the face) involves emphasizing or reducing facial contours with dark or light accents - this make-up trend is therefore highly professional, for example for photo shoots. So you really need to know how to do it - this includes paying close attention to the silhouette of the face.
Who is it suitable for? For professional and amateur models who want to get the most out of their face for the perfect picture. For "normal" women, it can be helpful if you are not so happy with certain parts of your face and want to conceal them.

The wonder weapon: concealer

What is it? The name comes from the English and means "to conceal". A concealer brightens and conceals shadows. A product with a yellow tint, which should be one shade lighter than your own skin tone, is suitable for the area under the eyes. Creamy formulas often last longer than liquid ones.
Who is it suitable for? For anyone who wants to cover up dark circles, redness around the nose and small spots.

The practical companion: powder foundation

What is it? Handy, medium coverage foundation in a compact that can be applied with either a brush or a powder puff. Great for the handbag.
Who is it suitable for? For anyone who wants to touch up their make-up from time to time.
