Pros & cons of aluminum salts: The deodorant duel

Aluminum salts have become the talk of the town. They are even said to be carcinogenic. Nevertheless, the majority of Germans continue to use deodorants with aluminum salts. But which is really better: deodorant with or without? We asked two experts for their opinion. Helen Landstorfer, Junior Manager at Beiersdorff, speaks in favor of deodorant with aluminum salts, while Lilith Schwerte, natural cosmetics expert at Weleda, argues against deodorant with aluminum salts.

Deodorant with or without aluminum salts?

PRO

What are the differences?
An antiperspirant with aluminum salts has a clear double benefit: it protects against underarm wetness and unpleasant odor. A deodorant only protects against the latter.

What is the advantage?
As a product with aluminum salts prevents underarm wetness, it is the right choice for many when it comes to making a confident impression. For example, at important professional appointments, on a first date or during sport.

What are the disadvantages?
None are known. Even the BfR (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) emphasizes that there is a lack of sufficiently valid scientific data to date.

CONTRA

What are the differences?
Deodorants without aluminium salts have a deodorizing effect without closing the pores. From a holistic point of view, the temperature regulation and excretory function of the skin is not impaired.

What is the advantage?
From a holistic point of view, natural cosmetic deodorants are preferable. They contain compatible ingredients and, more importantly, they support the body's self-regulation.

What are the disadvantages?
None from my point of view. It's a matter of attitude: if you don't like your normal personal odor at all, you should think about your diet.
