Why do some women have a beard?
It is completely normal for women to have slight facial hair. Everyone has this fine facial hair and there is no reason to be bothered by it. A lady's beard, on the other hand, is when darker and thicker hair appears around the mouth area. These give a feminine face masculine features and often make women feel uncomfortable and ashamed.
The most common cause of a lady's beard is hormonal in nature. In men, beard growth is completely natural and is triggered by the male sex hormone testosterone. This is also produced in small quantities in the female body, but generally not enough to cause beard growth. However, if the male and female sex hormones in the female body are out of balance, i.e. there is an excess of testosterone and a lack of the female sex hormone oestrogen, beard growth can also occur in women. If a doctor determines that female beard growth is caused by this, hormone therapy is prescribed. The aim of this is to correct the existing imbalance of male and female hormones.
The predisposition to a lady's beard can also be genetic or caused by certain medical conditions.
Home remedies for removing lady's beard
There are also some home remedies that can help to remove a lady's beard. Cucumber water or lemon juice, which bleach the hairs, are suitable for removing your beard quickly and easily. However, as these home remedies are not as concentrated as commercially available products, they are only suitable for lightening lighter hairs. The beard must be rubbed with one of the two liquids several times a day for the results to be noticeable. After five minutes, you can rinse your face with water. The lemon fruit in particular lightens the hair and reduces the growth rate of beard hair.
You can also mix sugar with lemon juice and boil both together until you have a thick mixture. This mixture is similar to hot wax. Apply the mixture to the skin while it is still warm, allow it to cool and then carefully peel it off.
Options for beard removal
Waxing: You can use both cold and hot wax strips to remove your beard. These are available at any drugstore, and there are also special facial wax strips. Hot wax hurts a little more, but is more effective. It takes around 2-3 weeks for the hair to grow back.
Depilatory cream: Regular use of an appropriate hair removal cream can also lead to success and significantly reduce the growth of beard hair. However, it is important to note that you should carry out a tolerance test on an inconspicuous area of skin beforehand. Many women react with side effects to this very aggressive cream.
Bleaching creams: As long as the hair is not too dark and thick, facial hair can be lightened with bleaching creams. This painless treatment removes the color from the hair, making it appear almost invisible as a result.
Threading: In this method, a double thread is moved along the skin and rotated quickly. The treatment is comparable to epilation, but cannot be carried out independently and must be performed by professional beauticians. The final result lasts up to four weeks and is very thorough.
Plucking: As long as the beard growth is limited, you can remove the slight beginnings of a lady's beard. Although this is painful, the hair is removed including the root, so it takes some time to grow back.
Epilating: Epilators are used to pull out the hair, including the root, which inhibits new hair growth.
Electro or needle epilation: This method is offered by dermatologists and cosmeticians. The cells responsible for hair growth are destroyed. This method, which is suitable for all hair types, is also considered to be very efficient and effective.
Laser therapy: In laser or IPL treatment, which is carried out in dermatology practices, the hair is irradiated with light using a laser. This destroys the hair follicle so that the hair no longer grows back. These treatments are somewhat more expensive, but also promise a high rate of effectiveness.
What you should look out for when removing a lady's beard
In any case, you need to consider whether the permanent removal of your beard hair is more important to you or whether you would prefer a cheaper option. Laser treatment costs significantly more, but at least removes the hair effectively and for a period of several years.
Of course, shaving the hair is the easiest and quickest option available to you. However, it is less suitable and has a few disadvantages. As the hair grows back quickly after shaving, shaving usually has to be repeated several times a week. In addition, women are not spared from razor burn or unsightly shadows of stubble on the face.
