Removing annoying facial hair

Whether it's hair on the upper lip, cheeks or chin: for us women, hair belongs on the head and not on the face. Even individual hairs, such as the witch's hair on the chin, are annoying and not exactly sexy. But you don't have to admit defeat, because there are manual methods to combat unsightly hair growth. Plus: beauty expert Patricia Hannappel dispels some myths.

Tired of the annoying hairs on your face? Dark-haired women in particular often suffer from the masculine signals on their face. Blondes naturally have an advantage in terms of visibility. However, this does not mean that they find facial hair less annoying. Here are some effective methods for removing unsexy facial stubble.

Spiral pluckers

A spiral plucker is particularly effective against annoying hair on the chin and upper lip: the stainless steel device grabs several hairs on the chin or upper lip at once and pulls them out, roots and all, in a twisting motion.

Exotic thread technique

Thorough and natural: The thread technique originates from the Orient and belongs in professional hands. Here too, the hairs are pulled out by the roots, which means they grow back less and finer. This method is ideal for complete facial hair removal, i.e. chin, cheeks, eyebrows and upper lip.

Practical waxing

What is effective for the legs also works for upper lip hair - waxing is a great way to remove it. There are products with cold wax for hair removal at home, while warm wax is used in salons. The advantage: you have peace of mind for several weeks. The disadvantage: it's not for sensitive skin.

Thorough epilation

Epilation is the perfect method for those who want to be really thorough. It removes even the smallest hairs of up to 0.2 mm in length at the root - guaranteeing smooth skin for four weeks. This method can also be a little painful.

Mild sugaring

This method is the gentle alternative to waxing. Sugaring is 100 percent natural and therefore particularly suitable for allergy sufferers and people with sensitive facial skin. Hair as short as three millimetres can be removed.

Tips from hair removal professional Patricia Hannappel on the topic: How do you get rid of annoying facial hair?

Does facial hair really grow back faster and darker?

This is a myth, because the exact opposite is true. The more regularly you go for hair removal, the less hair grows back and the finer it becomes. They only appear darker if they have been bleached by the sun and grow back in their natural color.

Can individual hard, thick, possibly gray hairs be plucked out?

Single, hard hairs are best plucked out with tweezers. Thick or gray hairs can also be sugared or waxed, but these hairs are more likely to break off, so the result may not be quite as perfect.

What can you do to prevent unsightly pimples from forming?

These occur when sweat and therefore bacteria penetrate the still open pores. You should therefore avoid the sun and sweaty activities for up to 24 hours afterwards. It is important to exfoliate the skin every two to three days after the treatment and always take good care of it.
