A little heel lore: stiletto, wedge and co.

Do kitten heels, cone heels and Cuban heels mean little to you? Wondering when a high heel is actually a high heel? Then read through our lexicon of heel types and expand your knowledge of heels!

Kitten heel

The kitten heel is also known as a small funnel heel. The heel height is 3-5 centimeters, so it is also suitable for beginners. Shoes with these heels are perfect for the office or everyday wear. Not only does it give you a secure hold, it goes with everything!

Cuban heel

This heel shape is not to be confused with the block heel. In comparison, the Cuban heel is lower and wider. I recommend wearing this shoe with 7/8 trousers or a knee-length dress.

Cone heel

With its curved shape, this heel almost looks like a half moon. Although it is narrow, it offers more support than stilettos or kitten heels precisely because of its curvature.

Spool or Louis heel

This heel shape was actually intended for men. That is probably why this shape was named after King Louis VX. This heel is very extravagant with its waisted shape. You should therefore make sure that the rest of the shoe is kept rather simple.

Stiletto, stiletto or high heel

This type of heel is also known as a stiletto. It is probably the best known and most common heel for high heels. It is also the favorite of almost every woman. It is characterized by the fact that it is very thin. High heels visually lengthen the leg and give every woman that certain something. Up to 9 cm, these shoes are classified as pumps. They are called high heels if the heel is more than 9 cm. This is precisely the pitfall of these great shoes: painful and swollen feet are often the result.

By the way: have you ever heard of sky heels? These have an incredible heel height of 22.5 cm. Something for the very brave!

Wedge heel

Often also known as a wedge heel. The heel is continuous and therefore gives us a lot of support and stability. This is exactly what makes these shoes so comfortable! However, I don't recommend wedge heels for dressy occasions. They look rather clunky and therefore don't go well with elegant evening wear or dresses.

Puppy or funnel heel

This heel is characterized by a shape that becomes narrower towards the bottom. Perhaps you have ankle boots at home? Then you're probably already familiar with this heel shape! These go best with tight-fitting pants or more casual dresses.

Block heel

Almost as comfortable as the Cuban heel, but as high as high heels! The block heel is not only trendy, it also combines two characteristics: Support due to a wide heel, long legs due to the height.

High heels do not necessarily mean that they are unhealthy. If you often wear high heels, you should vary the heel height regularly. In this way, you put your muscles and joints under different stresses and can counteract pain.
