Not only in Bavaria do traditional costumes belong in every closet. The Oktoberfest attracts guests from all over the world to Munich every year. And the right outfit is of course an absolute must.
Stramme Wadln and Hoiz vor da Hüttn
While the men in checked shirts and lederhosen emphasize their tight calves, the ladies can show off their curves in enchanting dirndls. The flared skirts of the traditional dresses flatter the hips and the usually laced corsages with ruffled blouses underneath allow the so-called "Hoiz vor da Hüttn" (High German for 'wood in front of the hut') to peek out.
It's all about the bow
And then there's the very telling bow on the apron. There's a real flirting code behind it. The bow tied on the right-hand side indicates that the lady is already married. The bow on the left, on the other hand, indicates that the wearer is still single. But beware: the lady may still be in love or even engaged.
