Hair is our most beautiful accessory. That's why we want to take care of our mane. But at some point, something as mundane as washing your head becomes routine and you stop worrying about whether everything is going correctly or whether you could perhaps do it (even) better. See if you can optimize your "main wash cycle" with our tips for washing your hair properly.
Shampoo skilfully: It's best to proceed step by step
Before you get into the shower: Comb any remaining styling products such as hairspray out of your hair. The shampoo should always be tailored to your hair type. Is your hair thin, gray, damaged, greasy or dry? If you are unsure, it is better to ask your hairdresser. Now wash your hair with lukewarm water. The amount of shampoo depends on the length of the hair. Basically, the shorter the hair, the less is needed. A hazelnut-sized portion is sufficient for chin-length hair. Apply the shampoo to your hand and lather it up a little with water. Massage this mixture into the scalp using circular movements. Rinse the hair with clear water until no more residue is visible and it "squeaks". For those who dare: A subsequent cold shower ensures that the cuticle closes - this makes the hair really shiny and healthy-looking later on.
Don't forget to condition: Conditioner, masks and treatments protect
Of course, proper hair washing also requires proper care. A classic conditioner forms a protective film around the hair after cleansing. It makes it easier to comb and tames flyaway hairs. It is washed out again after a short application time. The product should be used after every wash - your hair will thank you for it. If you have very dry or damaged hair, use a mask or intensive treatment. To increase its effect, it is best to wrap a turban around your head and wait for around ten minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Wet hair is sensitive. The motto for gentle drying applies here: do not rub, just squeeze. Then carefully detangle with a wide-toothed comb - this easily loosens any knots.
Current, exciting developments: First conditioner, then shampoo?
Have you ever heard of "reverse washing"? This is the insider tip for fine hair: use conditioner first and then wash with shampoo. The idea is to weigh the hair down less. You can give it a try. Definitely more interesting than the "no poo" trend from the USA. What is that? Washing your hair with just water and no products at all. No thanks. We'd rather wash as usual.
