Mascara is the most popular beauty product among German women: studies have shown that 98% of all ladies in Germany use mascara. However, there is hardly any other product category where the needs are so different. While some women long for more curl or fullness, others need deep color, definition or more length. This is where the different brushes come into play. Of course, it also depends on the mascara formulations - cosmetics companies never tire of bringing new formulas onto the market.
Mascara dos
What you need to know now for thick and long lashes: clever tips and tricks on how to apply mascara correctly and guarantee optimum results.
Waterproof mascara is ideal in summer, at the swimming pool or during sweaty sports. Nothing runs! Get the right eye make-up remover for waterproof mascara at the same time.
When buying mascara, pay attention to the type of brush: a brush with short bristles is suitable for short lashes, while thick, long bristles are best for normal lashes. Curved brushes conjure up more curl, while XXL brushes ensure great lushness. Widely spaced bristles add definition. Rubber combs are great for particularly unruly lashes.
Always have a cotton bud to handwhen applying make-up. This can be used to iron out small mistakes without having to remove make-up from the whole eye. Due to the increasing amount of plastic waste, cotton buds are supposed to be banned soon - there are alternative cotton buds without plastic. For the sake of the environment, you should use them even without a legal ban.
A tip for a radiant look: First apply mascara from the top, then from the bottom - this gives a great lift.
Always apply the productin a zig-zag motion, turning the brush from bottom to top.
If you want more density, draw a thin line along the upper lash line. Voilà!
The eye looks more open if you also apply mascara to the lower lashes - just once is enough.
For super voluminous lashes, you can apply a base under your usual mascara. This coats each individual hair and makes them stronger and fuller. Drama, baby!
Extra tip: Use an eyelash curler for a great curl. Blow-dry them briefly beforehand - makes it easier.
Mascara don'ts
There are a few misconceptions that persist - but that doesn't make them right. So it's better not to.
Never lend mascara, even if it's to your best friend. Otherwise there is a risk of infection from bacteria!
Never try drugstore testers on your eyes - they could be contaminated and cause conjunctivitis.
Never wipethe brush on the container as this can cause the product residue to clump together at the edge.
When "pumping" quickly, hardly any more color is absorbed, but air gets into the bottle and dries out the formulation.
Only ever applyeye care under and around the eyes, never apply cream to the eyelashes. Otherwise they will become oily and even a waterproof product will no longer hold.
If mascara smells unpleasant or crumbles, it should be replaced with a new one. After three to six months at the latest. Pay attention to the symbols on the tube. These indicate how long a cosmetic product can still be used after opening.
Do not continue to use the old mascaraafter an eye infection. It contains bacteria that can cause the inflammation to recur.
Never use an eyelash curler after applying the product, otherwise the hairs will break. If you have sensitive eyelashes, it is better not to use them at all.
Eyelash serums for long lashes
Stronger, thicker, longer - yes, please! Not all women are naturally blessed with lush growth and long eyelashes. But that doesn't matter, because today there are hormone-free textures with active ingredients such as panthenol, biotin or provitamin B5, which strengthen the hair roots and stimulate growth. Some formulas are also suitable for eyebrows. How does it work? Apply the serum twice a day to cleansed skin like eyeliner. Wipe the product off the neck of the bottle - a tiny amount is enough to stimulate growth. Then wait a moment for the formula to absorb before applying eyeshadow, kajal or mascara.
Fake lashes
Would you like a little more? If you really want to curl your lashes, go for fake ones. In the past, there was only the familiar gluing technique, where a little special glue is first applied to the lash strip and then, after a short drying time, it is carefully attached close to the lash line, preferably with tweezers. What's new now? A magnetic fastening system with two pairs of eyelash strips that, when correctly positioned, attract each other, enclosing your own eyelashes and holding them permanently. Ingenious!
