"Dementia Week": TV lottery supports numerous projects

Around 1.6 million people in Germany suffer from dementia, and around 40,000 more are diagnosed every year. From September 18 to 24, the "Dementia Week" will draw attention to the topic with projects that focus on the togetherness of young and old. The campaign week for the integration of people with dementia is supported by the German Television Lottery.

Social participation for older people

The aim of the campaign week, which is sponsored by the Social Lottery as a partner, is to create more understanding and support for those affected and their relatives. "Social participation for older people with and without dementia and offers for their carers are particularly important to us as a social lottery," explains Christian Kipper, Managing Director of the German Television Lottery and the German Relief Organization Foundation. "That's why, with the help of our players, we support numerous projects such as senior citizens' facilities and advice centers for those affected and their relatives."

Bringing young and old together

With cultural impulses and creative projects such as "Vergissmeinnicht" from Berlin or the "Theater der Erfahrungen", the social participation and integration of older people is to be strengthened. The TV lottery is supporting this project with around 40,000 euros.

The Schneeberg meeting place run by Arbeiterwohlfahrt Erzgebirge also focuses on social interaction. Here, senior citizens and their relatives receive information on dementia care and find an important point of contact.
