Hannelore Elsner died after a short illness

Hannelore Elsner died on Easter Sunday at the age of 76. The actress, who is known for her roles in "Die Kommissarin" and "Die Schwarzwaldklinik" as well as numerous other cinema and television productions, succumbed to the consequences of a short illness, according to media reports.

This was confirmed by the actress's lawyer, Dr. Matthias Prinz, to RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland. "As lawyers for Hannelore Elsner's family, we have the sad duty to inform the public that Hannelore Elsner unexpectedly fell seriously ill and passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday," the statement reads.

An acting icon says goodbye

Hannelore Elsner was awarded numerous prizes such as the Bavarian Television Prize and even the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. She last appeared in the movie "Cherry Blossoms and Demons" in February 2019. From 1983 to 1997, she played detective Lea Sommer in Hamburg's "Tatort".
