Pop singer Jürgen Marcus has died at the age of 69 after a long illness. The singer, who was best known for his hit "Eine neue Liebe ist wie ein neues Leben" (A new love is like a new life), had been suffering from the chronic lung disease COPD for a long time.

Jürgen Marcus celebrated his greatest successes with pop music in the 70s.

In 1975, Jürgen Marcus sings his song "Ein Lied zieht hinaus in die Welt" at the German preliminary round of the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson.

He was in a relationship with his manager and partner Nicolaus Fischer for over 20 years.

After staying out of the limelight for a long time, Jürgen Marcus returned to the public eye in April 2017 with some sad news. The pop singer had been suffering from COPD since 2002. He retired from the stage in 2012 for health reasons.

He lost the fight against the disease

His partner and manager Nicolaus Fischer told Deutsche Presse-Agentur: "It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Jürgen Marcus has lost his battle against the chronic lung disease COPD". He died in mid-May in the apartment they shared in Munich. The two were a couple for more than 20 years.

His music lives on

The native of North Rhine-Westphalia would have celebrated his 70th birthday on June 6. But even if his fans now have to say goodbye, his music will remain unforgotten.
