Meghan & Prince Harry: The first pictures of "Baby Sussex"

For weeks, the whole world has been waiting spellbound for the big news from the British royal family. Now Meghan Markle (34) and Prince Harry (37) have finally announced the arrival of baby Sussex!

With an ever-growing baby bump, Duchess Meghan regularly appeared alongside her beloved at public events. Even heavily pregnant, the American still proved her knack for style and strutted from appointment to appointment in dizzyingly high heels.

Meghan missing the Queen's birthday

However, on Easter Sunday of all days, she was absent from the royals' traditional visit to St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Queen Elizabeth II also celebrated her 93rd birthday on Sunday. I wonder if the Queen's eighth great-grandchild was born on the same day?

However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want to keep the birth of their first child out of the public eye as much as possible. This was the word in a statement from the palace:

Their Royal Highnesses have made the decision to keep plans about the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess are looking forward to sharing this exciting news with everyone when they have had the chance to celebrate privately as a family.

After Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan announced their pregnancy in October last year, it was quickly assumed that the due date could be in April or May. So it should be any time now. According to the British newspaper "The Sun", Meghan's mother Doria Ragland is also said to have already arrived in London.

The countdown for "Baby Sussex" is on

Another indication that "Baby Sussex" may have already seen the light of day is a post by the young royals on their Instagram profile. There, the parents-to-be had asked them to forgo gifts for their baby and instead support a number of charities. They expressed their gratitude for the generous donations "on behalf of the Duke and Duchess (and baby Sussex)".

Update (26.4.2019): Ambulance spotted

While royal experts are still puzzling over when Harry and Meghan's first child might be born, an ambulance has now been spotted outside their Frogmore Cottage home. It seems that the medical team is already on call. So it could start at any time. Is Meghan already in labor? Royal expert Chris Ship also told ITV this morning that he was certain the baby would be born today.

The father-to-be attended the Anzac Day service in Westminster Abbey with sister-in-law Catherine the day before and seemed in good spirits and relaxed.

Baby visit from William & Kate?

Kate and William are said to have been spotted at Frogmore Cottage on Easter Sunday. An unusual time for a visit, as the royals' schedule was particularly full on that day. But in addition to the traditional Easter service and the Queen's birthday, the couple still found time to drive to Harry and Meghan's estate. Were they there to welcome the newest member of the family? An insider told Bazaar magazine: "William and Catherine went to see Meghan because she couldn't make it to the service. They wanted to show their support and see how she was doing."

Update (6.5.2019): "Baby Sussex is here!

At last! After weeks of speculation, Prince Harry and his Meghan have now personally announced the birth of the royal offspring on their Instagram account. And it's a boy! The couple had not previously announced the sex of their first-born.

The post simply shows a dark blue picture with the caption "It's a boy!". The couple also wrote:

We are delighted to announce that Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcomed their first child in the early morning of May 6, 2019.

The little prince weighs 3,260 grams. The statement continues: "The Duchess and baby are both healthy and doing well, and the couple would like to thank the nation for their anticipation and support at this special time in their lives."

Further details will follow in the coming days.
