Lover has her husband's child - and wants money
"A friend of my husband's called and told me she was having a baby that day and if I didn't give her money, she would write about it in the newspaper. I just stood there and hoped that the song would be over soon, it was terrible," Mary Roos said, visibly upset.
Mary Roos was criticized for her ESC performance
Mary Roos, now 69, was previously married to pop star Werner Böhm, alias Gottlieb Wendehals ("Polonäse Blankenese") - it was well known that the marriage was in crisis. But it must have been terrible news so shortly before the performance!
No one had any idea how authentic her performance was back then: with the knowledge of today, the singer's performance might have been judged differently in the past: Roos only came 13th with "Aufrecht geh'n" and was criticized for the botched performance. After all, Mary Roos was a professional when it came to the ESC: she took part twice and came 3rd in Edinburgh in 1972 at the age of just 21 with "Nur die Liebe lässt uns leben". The first place that year was won by another big pop star: Vicky Leandros for Luxembourg with "Après tois". In total, Roos took part in the ESC preliminary rounds five times.
Mary Roos and Werner Böhm divorced in 1989 - the artist couple had been married for eight years.
