Rest in Peace: Prince Philip's funeral will take place on Saturday, April 17th

Funeral of Prince Philip

Despite great public sympathy, the funeral is to take place in the smallest circle of the royal family due to the coronavirus pandemic. The royal family has therefore asked that there be no crowds of people outside Windsor Castle. As the invited guests only include the closest royal circle of around 30 people, these guests are to be expected:

  • Prince Charles and wife Camilla
  • Princess Anne and husband Sir Timothy Laurence
  • Prince Edward and wife Sophie Wessex
  • Prince Andrew

It is also likely that the royal couple's grandchildren and their spouses will attend Prince Philip's funeral:

  • Peter Phillips
  • Zara Tindall and husband Mike
  • Prince William and wife Kate
  • Prince Harry (already arrived in England)
  • Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mozzi
  • Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank
  • Lady Louise Windsor
  • Viscount Severn

Which channels are broadcasting the funeral live

The funeral service is of course still a media event that will be broadcast live. Due to the special corona period, it is unfortunately also the only opportunity for many people to accompany Prince Philip on his last walk. You can follow the funeral live on these channels:

  • ZDF will broadcast Prince Philip's funeral live from 3.10 pm
  • Das Erste will be broadcasting a "Brisant extra" from 4.15 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • RTL will broadcast a live "Exclusiv Special Goodbye, Prince Philip!" with Frauke Ludowig, Guido Maria Kretschmer and nobility expert Michael Begasse from 2 pm
  • The news channel WELT will report live from the funeral from 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • SAT.1 will broadcast the special "Farewell to Prince Philip" from 2.30 pm

The Queen sets the dress code for the funeral

Prince Harry had to relinquish all military titles after his resignation, so he is not allowed to wear his military uniform to Prince Philip's funeral. The Queen has stipulated that uniforms should not be worn to the funeral. All invited male guests are to appear in plain cutaways with black ties. A considered decision, as this way the Queen avoids Harry being - or feeling - paraded. The ladies have also been asked to wear plain clothes.
