Update - the baby name of the little prince has been decided:
Kensington Palace has announced via Twitter: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles." This means that number five in line to the throne is officially called: "His Royal Highness Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge". Well, that takes the name "Albert", which was the hottest contender, off the table.
Prince Albert - this baby name was hotly contested
Prince William had already announced to journalists after the birth that the little prince's name had been decided - but until the official announcement this Friday, there was of course speculation and betting. Albert was the hottest name contender. "Journalists from the Daily Mail had "proof" of this - they had discovered that an "Albert" page was under construction at www.royal.uk . Every royal can be found with their name on the royal family's official website. In fact, there is a separate page under the name "Albert", which shows various content from the lives of the royals. The assumption was that this would be updated with baby photos of the mini-royal. This assumption did not prove correct, as there is now an official "Louis Arthur Charles" page.
Albert, a German ancestor
Albert would also have been a nice choice, as the little prince would then have been named after a German ancestor. Albert is also another first name of Princes Andrew and Harry and the birth name of King George VI. In the family chronicles, it can be traced back to Prince Consort Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, who married Queen Victoria of England in 1840.
