Rosamunde Pilcher dead at the age of 94

The successful author Rosamunde Pilcher has died at the age of 94. As her son confirmed to the British newspaper "The Guardian", she succumbed to the consequences of a stroke on Sunday.

Rosamunde Pilcher suffered a stroke

"She was in top form until Christmas. At the beginning of the year, however, she got bronchitis, but as always we thought she would recover," explains her son Robin Pilcher. "Sunday night, however, she suffered a stroke and didn't regain consciousness afterwards."

She touched people

He describes her as "a wonderful, rather alternative-minded mother who touched and influenced many people from young to old - not only with her writing, but also with personal friendships". In 1946, Rosamunde Scott married the textile entrepreneur Graham Pilcher. The marriage produced four children.

Picturesque scenes and passionate romances

Rosamunde Pilcher's novels, many of which have been made into films, have delighted readers and television viewers all over the world. Born in Cornwall, her stories transported readers to picturesque locations amidst passionate romances, intrigues and family quarrels.

She published her first work at the age of 19. Under the pseudonym Jane Fraser, she published short stories for women's magazines from the end of the 1940s. Pilcher made her big breakthrough in 1987 with the family saga "The Shell Seekers". She was awarded the OBE in 2002.
