"It is with great sadness that we have to announce that one of our greatest and most beloved artists is no longer with us," said Marie Dimberg, the musician's manager, in a press release. She leaves behind her husband Mikael Bolyos and their two children Josefin and Oscar.
She battled cancer for 17 years
Marie Fredriksson had battled cancer for 17 years. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor back in 2002. She then began a long battle against the disease and the consequences of radiotherapy. In 2016, the Swede had to cancel the anniversary tour with her band Roxette as her health deteriorated again.
Roxette is one of the most successful pop bands of the 80s and 90s
With hits such as "Listen to Your Heart", "It Must Have Been Love" and "Joyride", the Swedish pop duo wrote music history in the 1980s and 1990s and were one of the most successful pop music bands of the time, selling over 75 million records.
Per Gessle (60) bids farewell to his long-time band partner and good friend with a touching Facebook post: "Thank you Marie, thank you for everything. You were an outstanding musician, a masterful singer, a great entertainer," he writes.
