ZDF-Fernsehgarten: Andrea Kiewel cancels Luke Mockridge's appearance

What was going on in the ZDF TV garden on August 18, 2019? Comedian Luke Mockridge (30) caused quite a stir with bad jokes and insults - not only with the audience, but also with presenter Andrea Kiewel (54).

Bad jokes and insults

A banana as a telephone and flat jokes were the least of the problems with Luke Mockridge's appearance on Sunday in the ZDF TV garden. When the entertainer then became insulting and declared that old people "always smell of potatoes", he was punished by the audience with whistles and boos.

Andrea Kiewel vents her anger

Presenter Andrea Kiewel has also had enough of the 30-year-old's flippant behavior and interrupts his appearance. Although the presenter has been in the business for a long time and has already experienced a lot, she seems to be permanently shocked by her colleague's behavior and later on in the show she publicly expresses her anger: "I've been doing this show for 19 years now. What Luke Mockridge did there is unbeatable in terms of lack of collegiality. This show has been around for 33 years. The fact that an artist then dares to jump around like a monkey on my stage, in front of my audience, I think is the worst behavior there can be among artists, among colleagues."

What ZDF says about the incident

Clear words from Kiwi. And ZDF has now also spoken out about the incident. "In the ZDF-Fernsehgarten, we're actually up for any kind of fun. However, the jokes that Luke Mockridge made did not match our sense of humor or that of the audience. Unfortunately, there is nothing more to say, the performance speaks for itself," reads the statement from the broadcaster to the German press agency.

Was it all staged?

But what is really behind the young entertainer's conspicuous behavior? Users on various social media channels were soon asking themselves. Was it all just staged? At least one sentence he uttered during his performance would suggest this: "I'm afraid I have to do this until you laugh," said Mockridge. Had he lost a bet? And as "Bild" found out, there is even more evidence to support this. Luke is said to have brought his own camera crew with him. That's pretty suspicious, as his new show "The Greatnightshow" will be broadcast on Sat1 on September 13.
