On March 8, we celebrate International Women's Day and reveal a few interesting facts.

Good to know

Around 7.5 billion people live on Earth. Of these, around 3.78 billion are male and around 3.72 billion are female. The situation in Germany is similarly balanced: of the 81.3 million German citizens, around 41.4 million are women and around 39.9 million are men.

Long life

Life expectancy for women (83.1 years) is on average around five years longer than for men (78.1 years). Why is that? It's because women go to the doctor more often, which means that illnesses can be detected and treated more quickly.

The woman, the chatterbox

Yes, yes, the role cliché: women talk all day long, while men sit silently by. But that's not quite true. A study by Harvard University has shown that the talkativeness of women AND men depends on the conversational situation in which they find themselves. In large groups, men talk more; in smaller groups, women speak more.

Well, bon appétit!

Did you know that we women eat around 3.5 kg of lipstick in our lifetime just through the normal use of lipstick? Sure, it actually belongs on our mouths, but a small proportion of it ends up in our stomachs.

Bad drivers?

Not at all! According to an analysis by the Federal Statistical Office, women are involved in accidents less often than men and are also quicker to park. Yeah!

Our faithful companion

71 percent of women think it's great that you can combine fun with sport when cycling. And 15 percent even go so far as to give their bike a pet name.

Women as technophobes?

Computer science is a purely male domain? That's only half true. Although the majority of people working in this field today are men, a woman actually wrote the world's very first computer program. Mathematician Ada Lovelace programmed the algorithm back in 1843 - long before the computer was even developed.

What is offside in soccer?

According to their own data, 93 percent of women know. However, only 79 percent can actually explain it. No matter, we think - we can still have our say. And kick-off!

It's the outside that counts

This applies to smartphones. According to a study, 80 percent of women only pay attention to the design of the technology part when buying a smartphone.

How unromantic

A full 45% of women are happy to do without a romantic gift on Valentine's Day. But only if their partner makes declarations of love throughout the year as an alternative.

Sweet tooth

Chocolate, cream cake or a few delicious cookies - most women have a real sweet tooth. Around 25 percent reach for sweets and other treats every day, compared to only 17 percent of men.

Criminal? Not us!

In fact, women are much less likely to become criminals than men. The fact is: out of 70,800 inmates in German prisons, only around 3,800 are women. That corresponds to a proportion of 5.3 percent.

What is really important

According to a study, 61 percent of women describe themselves as satisfied. 68 percent consider a happy partnership to be particularly desirable. Two aspects are particularly important: fidelity and mutual support. This was stated by 90 percent of the women surveyed. Fun fact: Women find it more fulfilling to fit back into pants that were once too tight than sex.

Yes, we are old-fashioned

47% of women expect the man to pick up the tab on the first date. Incidentally, 19 percent of us make ourselves scarce after the date in order to appear more interesting.

Really successful

Women in management positions are rare, but successful. A study has shown that companies with a woman at the top make more profit. You see!
