What makes us happy: be your own happiness detective

If we consciously think about the things that made us happy during the day in the evening, we train ourselves to focus our attention on positive things. And that is good for the soul. So let's be on the trail of the "benefactors", advises our happiness expert Dr. Sandra Boltz.

Find out what makes you happy and treat yourself to little moments of happiness every now and then. This could be a nice cup of tea or fresh flowers.

Treat yourself to a little treat

When we feel good, it is extremely important to realize why this is the case. Once we are aware of the reasons, the feeling can be repeated. So think about what makes you feel good - and repeat it! The little coffee break in between, a conscious look out of the window, listening to the first birdsong in spring - treat yourself to a little treat every now and then throughout the day.

If you consciously keep these moments in mind and enjoy them, you can gain a more positive attitude towards life in the long term. Results from happiness research show that happy people live more in the here and now. They don't constantly brood over the past and worry less about the future.

Live in the moment

So enjoy simply living in the moment without already planning the next moment. This mindfulness also enables you to step out of brooding thoughts and perceive the actual moment. Practicing this allows us to deal with life more calmly in the hectic pace of everyday life. We feel more relaxed, our stress levels drop and we have more energy. Not bad, is it?

So why not consciously strengthen the positive today and be on the trail of your personal little moments of happiness. What makes you feel good? Repeat it!
