Hatschi! What to do if you get caught? We explain.

1 You can sweat out flu-like infections in the sauna

No! If you have a cold and are suffering from a cough, cold and perhaps even a fever, you should never go to the sauna. This is because the alternation between heat and subsequent cold puts additional strain on the body and weakens the immune system in its fight against pathogens. You can also infect other sauna-goers with your cold. In healthy people, however, regular sauna sessions strengthen the immune system in the long term.

2 I can get through the winter healthy with a flu vaccination

Not necessarily! The vaccination only protects against the real flu - but not against a flu-like infection. These two illnesses are often confused. And this is how they differ: real flu comes on suddenly with a high fever and usually lasts for two weeks, while the flu-like infection creeps up slowly and after a week, those affected are healthy again.

3 Curd compresses help with a sore throat and fever

Quark has an anti-inflammatory, decongestant, pain-relieving and cooling effect. Curd compresses also reduce fever and are completely free of side effects and contraindications. You can use it as often as you like. And this is how it's done: The quark should be at room temperature and not straight out of the fridge. Spread a finger-thick layer of quark on a cloth and place the quark side on your neck or forehead. Wrap a second cloth over it. Leave the quark on until it has dried.
