New research findings
Almost every woman knows the symptoms and knows what to do. If it hurts to urinate or there is even blood in the urine, it is advisable to see a doctor. It is not uncommon for the doctor to prescribe antibiotics for cystitis. But does this make sense? German researchers have now investigated this. They found that in two thirds of patients with an uncomplicated infection, the illness healed without these drugs.
Natural remedies for cystitis?
Those who prefer to avoid antibiotics can rely on the power of nature instead. Teas have proved particularly effective for cystitis. The medicinal plants goldenrod, orthosiphon (cat's whiskers) and aqualibra are also effective in treating the infection. Goldenrod has an anti-inflammatory effect and hay relieves pain, while cat's beard relaxes the bladder. At the same time, Orthosiphon prevents germs from settling, as confirmed by a new study by the University of Münster. And if antibiotics do need to be taken for cystitis, for example in the case of fever or blood in the urine, they can be combined with the herbal remedy.
Warmth is also good, so always snuggle up. And drink enough during the day to flush out the germs, for example 250 milliliters of water or tea every 20 minutes.
