As good as tablets: peppermint oil for headaches

More than half of Germans suffer from recurring headaches, which are often tension headaches. They are triggered by stress and overwork as well as acute or chronic tension in the shoulder, throat and neck muscles. Read here to find out what really helps and how you can use peppermint oil against headaches.

Expert guidelines now recommend peppermint oil for the treatment of tension headaches.

Mostly tension headaches

Tension headaches often improve simply by taking a walk in the fresh air. But even if there is no opportunity to do this - for example at work - there is an alternative to painkillers: ten percent peppermint oil. Simply rub the oil on your temples to relieve headaches. It has recently been expressly recommended in the guidelines of the German Society for Pain Therapy for tension headaches.

No habituation, no internal side effects

Current studies show that it relieves pain just as well as taking one gram of acetylsalicylic acid or one gram of paracetamol - but without the side effects.
