Affected people can combat chafing skin, known as keratosis pilaris, with simple remedies.

Those affected suffer particularly in winter

Keratosis pilaris is triggered by the deposition of keratin in the hair follicles. This causes the sebaceous glands to harden and become inflamed, resulting in small white or slightly reddish pimples. The skin feels rough. The symptoms are exacerbated by dryness. Those affected suffer from a deterioration in the appearance of the skin, particularly in winter.

Getting keratosis pilaris under control

Fortunately, there are many treatment options. Keratosis pilaris can be treated with special ointments and gentle peelings:

  • Avoid shower creams containing soap, they dry out the skin even more.
  • Use moisturizing skin creams (e.g. with urea)
  • Nourishing oils such as coconut or olive oil contain vitamin E and protect the skin from inflammation
  • Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells
