Returning from a high-risk area or virus variant area? Unvaccinated people must be tested from August 1st!

Compulsory testing: what regulations now apply to returning travelers

From August 1, all returning travelers aged 12 and over must provide proof of full vaccination, recovery or a negative corona test. The corona test must be paid for by the vacationers themselves from the beginning of August and must be taken in the vacation country. This regulation not only applies to holidaymakers traveling by plane, but also to anyone traveling by train, bus or car.

Returning to Germany: What you need to know about entry regulations

Vacationers who are not or not fully vaccinated must present a negative test. This must be done at your own expense BEFORE returning to Germany, i.e. while still in the respective vacation destination. The negative test must be presented at the airport. Random samples are taken on private transport by bus, train or car. All holidaymakers must complete a digital entry declaration.

What vaccinated and recovered people need to know

In order to prevent further coronavirus mutants from spreading in Germany after Delta, recovered and fully vaccinated people must also present a negative test if they have been on vacation in a virus variant area. If both groups have been on vacation in a high-risk area, they do NOT have to present a negative test.

Quarantine obligation

Anyone who has not been vaccinated or has recovered must go into quarantine for ten days after entering the country from a high-risk area. However, this can be ended after five days with a negative corona test. For children under the age of 12, quarantine ends after five days. If the same group of people have been on vacation in a virus variant area, a quarantine period of 14 days applies.
