Delta variant: How high is the risk of infection outdoors?
Even with the more dangerous delta variant, the risk of catching the virus outdoors is lower than indoors. But due to the aggressiveness of the virus, there is no all-clear for outdoors either. Ralf Bartenschlager, President of the Society for Virology, told dpa that delta is generally more contagious, "even when you are out in the fresh air."
If enough people come together, the risk of infection with delta is five times higher than with the initial alpha variant.
"The more virus an infected person has, the greater the risk of transmission - even outdoors," Bartenschlager continued.

Keep your distance - corona measures are also important outdoors
Due to the increased risk of infection, even in the fresh air, it is therefore important to adhere to the prevailing corona rules. Wear a medical mask and keep your distance - especially in coronavirus hotspots where there are lots of people.
Can vaccinated people catch the delta variant?
According to the US health authority CDC, this is to be expected. However, the probability of a severe course of the disease is significantly lower than for people who have not been vaccinated. The probability of dying from the virus infection is said to be around 25 times lower and the probability of having to go to hospital around eight times lower.
