Inhaling brings relief for complaints in the upper respiratory tract. Inhaling hot steam cleanses the mucous membranes and increases blood circulation. Stubbornly stuck mucus in the nose and bronchial tubes can be blown out more easily.
What you need to bear in mind:
- The water should be around 70 to 80 degrees when you start inhaling. You can add untreated salt (approx. 1-2 tablespoons per bowl) or chamomile flowers, for example.
- Spread the towel over your head and bowl so that no steam escapes.
- To avoid burning yourself, there should be about two hand-widths of space between your face and the liquid.
- Breathe in through your mouth and out through your nose. This will prevent your nose from swelling up from the hot steam.
- You can "ventilate" a little after every ten breaths. Inhale for about ten minutes in total.
