The main purpose of sweating is to regulate heat. However, there are people who perspire more even when at rest and in cooler temperatures. This so-called primary hyperhidrosis is a case of dysregulation - you sweat even though it is not necessary. Sweat can be reduced by around 80 percent with a new procedure. In this Miradry procedure, the sweat glands are destroyed with microwaves - this only works in the area under the armpits. If hands and feet are affected, treatment with Botox is similarly effective, but must be repeated every six to nine months. If you have perspiration all over your body, the triggering nerves can be blocked with surgery. In exceptional cases, the health insurance will cover the costs of between 1,000 and 2,500 euros.
