Often a side effect of an illness
The causes have not yet been conclusively researched. In many cancer patients, fatigue syndrome is a consequence of chemotherapy or radiation treatment. Parkinson's patients also suffer from it. Other causes can be malnutrition, thyroid or adrenal gland disorders, massive sleep problems, but also anxiety and depression.
The simplest things cost a lot of energy
Even normal physical activities such as brushing teeth, cooking or talking on the phone are extremely strenuous for those affected. They can barely manage these activities and are totally exhausted afterwards and need to rest and recover.
Sport is an important part of treatment
Fatigue syndrome is treated with medication if anemia, hormonal or sleep disorders are the cause. Accompanying psychotherapy is also important in the treatment. Exercise is an essential part of the therapy: fitness is increased and muscles are built up. This helps with depression and pain. Without exercise, physical performance would continue to decline.
