Whether it's bread, fruit or cake - it's easy to overlook mold when eating and it's already there: When you chew, you immediately have the typical rotten and furry taste in your mouth. Apart from the taste: How dangerous is it if you accidentally swallow something moldy?
Eaten mold - what should you do now?
As long as the immune system is functioning properly, the body can deal with it without symptoms developing. As a rule, it is only a matter of small bites, because you can clearly taste mold, even if you can't see the spores immediately. In most cases, you spit out the morsel immediately.
If you do eat large quantities of food, your body can react with vomiting or diarrhea. The body switches on its natural defenses to get rid of the spoiled food quickly. You can take charcoal tablets to support this, and it also helps to drink plenty of fluids.
However, people with a weakened immune system, pregnant women or babies should consult a doctor, who will then decide how to proceed.
Mold: toxins are dangerous
As a general rule, you should of course make sure that you do not eat any moldy food, as the so-called aflatoxins are harmful in the long term. They can cause damage to the liver and kidneys and lead to allergies and damage to the immune system.
