Absolutely worth seeing: the unique ambience
The reward was a visit to a top chef's studio with a three-course meal and an overnight stay at the Hotel Ameron in Hamburg's Speicherstadt warehouse district. And that went down very well with the readers: Over 500 of them wanted to take part - ten participants were the lucky winners and were allowed to travel to the city on the Elbe together with a companion. Many arrived early to see the historic Speicherstadt warehouse district or the modern Hafencity ...
In the evening we went to the SieMatic cooking studio. Everyone quickly felt at home in the stylishly futuristic yet cozy atmosphere. A welcome was followed by an interesting expert talk by internist and sports physician Dr. Wolfgang Grebe. He was a master at presenting all the diabetes facts in an entertaining way and said with a twinkle in his eye: "If I had to choose a chronic illness, I would choose diabetes - it's the one thing you can do the most about!" His tips: regular exercise, blood sugar-lowering extracts from the Indian jambul tree and a conscious diet.
On the program: enjoyment and joie de vivre
"The lecture could have gone on longer," enthused Maria Bruhn from Büchen - and expressed what all the participants felt. But they could hardly wait to cook together. Chef-manager Marcus Golembiewski from Kev's Kitchen, who prepared the mouth-watering dishes to perfection, had plenty of helpers. Everyone was eager to get down to business. Most of them were particularly keen on preparing the couscous, and many also helped with the main course or garnishing the mousse. As always, the best came at the end: everyone ate very consciously and with great enjoyment. How good a diabetic-friendly menu can taste! It goes without saying that the recipe tips were noted down immediately. It was also particularly nice for the participants to be able to exchange ideas with each other and get specific tips from the diabetic expert. But it was also a great experience to get to know the faces behind the FUNK UHR and the Glycowohl team. It was simply a special evening, more of an informal family celebration than a diabetic event.
"It was even nicer than I thought it would be," said winner Ilona Nürnberger from Ostfildern. "Everyone was very open, the location is great, I learned a lot and I now know how to enjoy myself despite diabetes." The FUNK UHR event - the start of a successful journey into a new life.
