Difficult to digest: When bile doesn't come to the rescue

The potato pancakes simply smell too delicious: you can treat yourself to a small portion. But not long after the plate is empty, the digestive system makes itself known. An unpleasant feeling of fullness and painful pressure on the stomach spread, as if you had stones in your stomach.

If the fats cannot be digested, there is a risk of bloating, pressure and flatulence.

This is typical of complaints with the gallbladder. One in four people in Germany has problems with it. Women are affected much more frequently than men.

Secretion with an important function: bile

Between meals, the liver produces a light yellow, thin fluid: bile. This is collected in the gallbladder and thickened. If high-fat food enters the intestine, the gallbladder is stimulated to empty its contents. The bile ensures that the dietary fats can be broken down. It also neutralizes the acidic chyme and makes it "digestible" for the intestines. In this way, it helps us to cope with the odd feast.

If there is a lack of bile, e.g. due to impaired bile flow or other diseases of the gallbladder or liver, fats cannot be digested. They remain in the intestine like ballast. This can lead to a feeling of fullness, pressure and flatulence.

Tea combination supports digestion

To support the processing of food after high-fat meals, there is help from nature: a tea made from dandelion and yarrow herb as well as peppermint leaves - such as Sidroga Digestive and Bile Tea from the pharmacy - stimulates the bile function due to the bitter substances it contains and thus supports digestion.

Sidroga Digestive and Bile Tea is only available in pharmacies.
