A toast to the vaccination?

Probably very few people think about the effects of alcohol after vaccination, because they are simply happy to have received their first or even second dose of vaccine. This is a reason to celebrate and the glasses are brought out - but is this a good idea? How does alcohol affect our bodies after the coronavirus vaccination? Can alcohol even have a negative impact on the effect of the vaccine?

Alcohol after the coronavirus vaccination: better not

There are currently no studies on how alcohol affects the coronavirus vaccination. However, the body is weakened during a vaccination, as our immune system is supposed to take up the fight against the viruses in doses. Numerous studies have shown that alcohol weakens the immune system. Just 10 grams of alcohol (0.1 l sparkling wine / 0.125 l wine / 0.3 l beer) weakens the immune system in women. For men, twice this amount is permitted. It can therefore be assumed that alcohol has a negative effect on the immune system after the coronavirus vaccination.

Does alcohol reduce the effect of the vaccination?

Experts advise against drinking alcohol before and after the coronavirus vaccination. The body already has its hands full with the vaccine. If it is also busy breaking down alcohol, which is a cytotoxin, it has to work very hard. Even if the amount described above does not make a difference, we should not work against our body, but support it with mindful behavior. So in the period before and after the coronavirus vaccination, make sure you eat a healthy and balanced diet and avoid stimulants such as alcohol and cigarettes.
