Detox test: we press the reset button
Alcohol, sometimes one or more cigarettes, hearty meals and the occasional sweet treat - December was a busy month again last year. A Christmas party here, a dinner with friends there and then the Christmas treats for the festive season - a detox juice cure comes in handy for the body. The aim of the 3 or 5-day treatment is to cleanse the body of the harmful substances that we ingest through food etc., as well as environmental influences. During juice cleansing, solid food is completely avoided, allowing the digestive tract to take a break. The body now only has two goals: Detoxification and regeneration.
Detox to go
Various providers on the market now offer different cleansing programs. For our detox test, we opted for "Kale and Me" and "pressbar". Both offer cold-pressed juices without any artificial additives, pasteurization, preservatives, flavour enhancers or added sugar. The "high pressure processing" method ensures that vitamins, minerals, enzymes and antioxidants remain exactly where they should be: in the juices. The 3-day detox juice cure from "pressbar" costs from 55.50 euros, the 3-day juice cure from "Kale and Me" costs 79.00 euros.
Nutritional optimization instead of dieting
Even if you only eat juice during the three days of the cure, cleansing is not a diet. You consume around 900 calories per day, which is of course much less than normal, but the fructose contained in the juices should not be underestimated. Annemarie Heyl from "Kale and Me" describes her program as the beginning of a long-term change in diet, while Marko Krsmanovic from "pressbar" speaks of a dietary optimization.
Detox for everyone
A detox juice cure over three or five days is actually suitable for everyone, says Annemarie, but pregnant women should not detox, as the body needs a lot of nutrients during this time. In preparation, you should eat a lighter diet for two days and your first meal afterwards should not necessarily consist of burgers, chips and pizza.
Almost 40 juices in 3 days - we are curious to see what our personal detox experiences will be like. We've heard everything from severe headaches and hunger pangs to a voracious appetite for everything that's not on the diet plan during the detox juice cure. Will it really be that bad? Read here how we fared on the first day.
