Exercise for diabetes
High body weight and the development of type 2 diabetes are closely linked. This is why exercise and diet should be used early on to prevent it. But even obese patients with diabetes can still have a positive influence on the course of their disease. And this can be achieved with brisk walking alone. Five to six hours of walking per week can help to reduce weight and abdominal circumference. Even better: exercise for diabetes lowers cholesterol levels and reduces harmful long-term sugar levels in the blood.
Exercise for high blood pressure
Many patients believe that high blood pressure can only be treated with medication. However, exercise can significantly reduce high blood pressure levels - without any side effects. Patients with early-stage hypertension can even bring it back down to normal levels, making medication completely unnecessary. Depending on the patient, a reduction of 5-10 mmHg or more can be expected. Gentle sports with moderate endurance exercise such as Nordic walking, swimming or cycling are completely sufficient. What's more, patients should even avoid blood pressure spikes caused by extremely strenuous exercise. Experts recommend exercising three to four times a week for at least half an hour.
Exercise against depression
Even a sick mind can be cured, or at least the symptoms alleviated, through exercise. The antidepressant effect of endurance sports such as jogging has been scientifically proven. Important: For the mood-lifting effect, the heart rate must remain elevated for at least five minutes during training. This allows the body to change its metabolism and release important hormones. According to a new study by the University of San Diego, exercise can be just as effective against depression as antidepressants and can replace tablets in many cases.
