It is better to carry out these operations in winter

Does it really matter when you have minor procedures carried out? Not quite. Because winter is the right time for certain operations.

To the dermatologist now? A good idea - because the short days, the poorer weather and the low level of sunlight mean that UV exposure is much lower and healing is faster.

Many people prefer to schedule operations that can be planned for the cold season because they don't want to be in hospital in the summer and miss out on some nice days. Irrespective of these more personal considerations, there are some procedures that are more or less in high season in winter because the chances of success and recovery are significantly higher then.

Removing skin marks

Age and liver spots, warts, blood sponges, moles and the like are lasered by a dermatologist. This creates a wound in the top layer of skin that heals without scars. The new skin is very sensitive and must not be exposed to the sun - which is why such procedures should be carried out in the darker months of the year. The same applies to medical peelings for wrinkles on the face.

Laser eye surgery

An American study has shown that laser eye surgery is more successful in the dry winter air than in the summer months when the humidity is higher. In addition, harmful UV radiation is lower in winter - patients should still wear sunglasses after the procedure.

Removing varicose veins

In fall and winter, the veins are usually stripped. Sclerotherapy, injections, laser and radio wave therapy are also preferably carried out from October to March. This is because patients have to wear compression stockings for a while after the procedure to reduce the risk of thrombosis. You don't sweat as much in winter, the stockings can be easily concealed under long pants and the risk of inflammation in the wound is also lower in winter.
