Oil pulling: Instructions and what it's good for

Oil pulling has been practiced for thousands of years in Indian Ayurveda and Russian folk medicine. It is said to protect against bacteria, fungi and viruses, detoxify the body and be good for the teeth. You can read why it is so healthy and the instructions for oil pulling here.

For oil pulling, roll a teaspoon of cooking oil back and forth in your mouth for three minutes in the morning on an empty stomach.

The time

Oil pulling is done in the morning on an empty stomach. To do this, a teaspoon of cooking oil is rolled back and forth in the mouth for three minutes. It is often recommended to perform the procedure for 15 to 20 minutes - but then you should spit the oil into a tissue in between and replace it with fresh oil. Then brush your teeth as normal.

Against periodontitis

Dr. Wolfgang H. Koch, dentist and chairman of the board of the German Periodontal Association, recommends oil pulling to prevent the bacteria that cause periodontitis. This strengthens the natural oral flora.

Against tooth decay

An English study showed that the proportion of caries-causing bacteria "Streptococcus mutans" was reduced by as much as 30 percent after just 45 days of oil pulling. It is also said to make teeth whiter in the long term.

Oil pulling against bad breath

Indian studies have shown that oil pulling kills the bacteria and fungi that cause bad breath. You should also clean your tongue with a tablespoon or special tongue scraper from the pharmacy.

Detoxification

And: oil pulling stimulates the glands in the oral mucosa to increase the secretion of harmful substances. The body is detoxified naturally.
