The pear-shaped fruit is often decried as a calorie bomb because it contains so much fat. However, avocado is nevertheless healthy and good for blood lipid levels, helps you lose weight and contains lots of minerals and vitamins.
There are around 400 varieties
40 years ago, nobody knew about them - today, the avocado is one of the absolute favorites among exotic fruits. It comes from tropical Central America and there are around 400 different varieties. They are available all year round in every supermarket.
The avocado: lots of nutritional value and high-quality fat
Half an avocado contains nutritious ingredients: around 23 grams of fat per 100 grams. This is not a small amount, but it is a particularly high-quality vegetable fat. This provides plenty of healthy, unsaturated fatty acids, which help the human metabolism to break down fat. This is mainly due to the enzyme lipase, which helps to control the melting of fat during digestion and also in the fatty tissue itself. Some researchers even consider it quite likely that this lipase prevents avocado fat from being stored in the cells, thereby accelerating fat loss overall. So an avocado a day is healthy and even helps you lose weight.
Protection against vascular calcification
Studies have shown that the fatty acids in avocados reduce the blood level of LDL (the "bad" cholesterol) and at the same time increase the HDL level (the "good" cholesterol). LDL is deposited on the walls of blood vessels and can cause arteriosclerosis (hardening of the blood vessels), among other things. HDL, on the other hand, absorbs excess cholesterol from the body's cells and transports it to the liver - thus protecting against arteriosclerosis and coronary heart disease.
Prevents diabetes
The ingredient mannoheptulose blocks the release of insulin and thus lowers blood sugar levels. Avocados also contain a lot of potassium. It regulates blood pressure and bone metabolism. It has an anti-inflammatory effect and protects against liver damage. Clearly, avocado is healthy. If that's not a reason to enjoy it without restraint...
