Yoga clothing: This could suit yoginis

Yoga helps to achieve inner peace, balance and fitness. To enable yoga practitioners to concentrate fully on the physical and meditative exercises and their breathing, the yoga clothing must be suitable. The motto here is quite sober: Functionality is key!

Yoga clothing must meet certain requirements

Freedom of movement must be given

Lotus position, sun salutations and downward facing dog: anyone practising the physical exercises of the ancient Indian philosophical teachings needs a yoga outfit that is not too loose, but also not too tight. Yoga clothing should therefore be free of items that could interfere with the movements - the hood of a hoodie, for example, could get in the way during some exercises. So nothing should pinch, slip or restrict your freedom of movement in any way.

For calmer kundalini and hatha yoga, the yoga shirt and trousers should be comfortable and keep you warm during the meditation phases, so cotton clothing is ideal here. And make sure you have an extra top ready to put on spontaneously in case you get cold quickly.

Durable and breathable

Breathable and hard-wearing functional clothing is recommended as yoga clothing for women who practise movement-intensive power and ashtanga yoga. Functionality is generally important - for example, a cuff is practical for exercises where the legs are stretched upwards so that the trouser leg does not slip down. There should also be nothing on the clothing that could pinch when sitting or lying down - i.e. no zippers, buttons or belts. And of course, yoga pants should not be too tight around the stomach and pinch.

Yoga socks provide support

Yoga socks, which are available in different variations, provide the right support on the floor : as toe and heel-free socks as well as classic socks that completely enclose the foot. Toe socks are also available - so there is plenty of choice and you can try out what fits best. Important: Yoga socks should have a non-slip sole. Otherwise, it is better to do yoga exercises barefoot.

Specialist yoga clothing stores even sell yoga shoes, also in various designs: There are shoes that resemble toe shoes and models that leave the toes free and have straps so that more air can reach the foot. Yoga shoes are designed to provide more grip on the floor, but are less common. Most yoginis prefer to do yoga exercises barefoot.
