American researchers have discovered in a study that just one cup of coffee a day can have a beneficial effect on digestion and positively influence bowel movements.
In their studies, the scientists fed coffee to rats to find out how it affects the intestines. The researchers came to the conclusion that coffee changes the intestinal bacteria, which keeps the intestines moving and the drink also improves the ability of the muscles to contract. Surprisingly, according to the study, the positive effect of coffee has nothing to do with the caffeine content. Decaffeinated coffee also achieved the same results in the study.
Coffee suppresses the growth of harmful bacteria
Although it has been known for some time that coffee has a positive effect on bowel movements, the exact reason for this was previously unclear. The study also found that the growth of harmful bacteria was suppressed by drinking coffee.
