Menopause in men: how to recognize the signs

The menopause is already feared by women. But men also go through it - charmingly enough, it is often referred to as a midlife crisis when a man mutates into a rocker on a motorcycle in his late 40s or suddenly starts dressing like a teenager. However, there is actually a hormonal decline that can be recognized by the following signs.

Menopause in men

Is your husband often exhausted and doesn't feel like having sex anymore? Then he may be going through the menopause. The menopause can also start in men at the age of 40, as less testosterone is produced at this age. It is therefore a hormonal "breakdown" like in women, where less oestrogen is produced from this age.

How to recognize the signs

1. no more desire for sex - not only a reduced libido, but also erection problems can cause problems for the man and of course for you as a couple. Medication may be able to help, but relaxation therapies should also be on the agenda. Above all: no pressure!

2. depression - is your husband often depressed and generally listless? These could be signs of depression. Keep an eye on this in any case and if not, see a doctor together with your husband. It is important that this topic is addressed openly and that your partner does not feel alone with it!

3. nervousness - or is it going the other way? If your husband is overly nervous and can't calm down at all, this could also be a sign of the menopause. Be vigilant here too, as this can also develop into depression.
