Your perfect home yoga space

Doing yoga on your own has a special magic: without instructions from a teacher, without the distraction of other yogis, a whole new world opens up. But to make it to the mat regularly, you need a place to go. A place that invites you to yoga and gets you into the yogic vibe. We'll tell you how to find the perfect place for your home yoga and how to make it a place of peace and strength

The perfect place for yoga: the shore of a lake or river or the seashore - at least that's what yoga guru B.K.S. Iyengar says

The perfect yoga place

How to create a beautiful space at home:

- The space should be large enough, at least 2.5 by 3.5 meters
- The floor should be level
- For the necessary concentration, you need peace and quiet, i.e. far away from street noise etc.
- The best place is by the window, for plenty of light and fresh air
- A view of nature is great - you may also be able to practise in the conservatory
- Perhaps you are lucky enough to have a second yoga spot for the warmer months, e.g. on the balcony or terrace in the garden?

The yoga equipment

- The most important thing: a yoga mat! And it should always be rolled out for you at home
- A non-slip yoga towel - for hot summer days or dynamic practice
- A cotton blanket that cushions the sensitive neck, e.g. during shoulder stand, and prevents your body from cooling down during relaxation
- Two yoga blocks or thick yoga philosophy hardcover tomes
- A yoga strap
- A bolster - these are long, fairly firm rollers that are perfect for lying heart opener poses or provide support for a sensitive back
- Meditation cushion or bench. However, a sofa cushion or similar will also work.
- A sand cushion also helps to weigh down tense parts of the body, allowing you to get deeper into a position and relax
- A fascia ball for fascia yoga exercises
- An eye pillow for perfect relaxation in Shavasana
- Speakers if you want to listen to music during yoga
- Possibly a small watch

How do I make my yoga space a place of peace and strength?

- The space should radiate calm: Set your focus on clarity and clear away anything that is irritating and distracting
- If necessary, give your new yoga hot spot a new coat of paint in muted, natural colors - this will ground you!
- Shield yourself from the rest of the apartment with a curtain or tapestry - this will also hide unsightly areas such as electrical appliances
- Very important: warm light! This creates a cozy atmosphere. Fairy lights, lanterns or - our favorite - candles arranged on a tray are best, as they quickly create a relaxing atmosphere
- To stimulate all the senses, scented candles or aromatic oils (lavender and rose have a relaxing effect, vanilla and orange lift the mood) are also great
- Pretty decorations such as hanging elements like wind chimes or dream catchers are great, as are mandalas or travel souvenirs from faraway countries

How do I practise yoga alone?

- Only start practicing yoga on your own when you feel completely confident, before that, application videos or online yoga studios such as YogaEasy are helpful
- Don't forget: Warm up! A few sun salutations or classic relaxation exercises such as cat-cow are suitable for this
- Always do one-sided exercises on both sides!
- Not quite sure how to start? It's best to do 5 - 10 sun salutations slowly and mindfully in the morning, alternatively gentle stretching and loosening exercises, in the evening concentrate on bending forward and sitting postures (preferably holding them for a long time) (avoid standing postures)
- Finally: don't forget mediation and pranayama!

And now: Turn off your cell phone and get on the yoga mat at your new yoga spot!
