Phishing
Phishing is a tried and tested scam for online fraud. The phishing e-mails are either intended to elicit personal data from the recipient or deliver a nasty virus. The crux of the matter: the emails look deceptively genuine, as if they come from Amazon, Paypal or your bank. They say that information is urgently needed or that passwords need to be changed. Sometimes they even contain correct personal data. You can recognize phishing e-mails by the fact that you are asked to send personal data and are almost always asked to click on a special link. Banks & co. never ask for this!
Our tip: Make sure you have good antivirus protection and maintain a healthy skepticism. Never give out any data. If you are unsure, call your bank or telephone provider. If you do fall victim to fraud on the Internet, make sure you report it to the police.
Fake stores
An amazing offer, the brand shoes are much cheaper than on other sites? In the worst case, you order the goods, pay in advance and receive nothing at all or the goods are of significantly poorer quality than the original. This is the online scam of fake stores. You can recognize them by their super-cheap prices and the fact that you can usually only pay by credit card. Many are also listed on the website: www.watchlist-internet.at/fake-shops. However, the operators are constantly changing their names.
Our tip: Always look for the legal notice and seals such as "Trusted Shop". Reputable sites have both. And: Don't pay in advance if you don't know the provider.
