Buying glasses online - great or foolhardy?

"This is how you buy glasses today" - says the advertisement of an online glasses store. It sounds very convenient. Choose a frame online, try them on virtually and have them delivered. But is buying glasses online really that convenient? And what are the disadvantages? We provide the answers.

How does the online purchase work?

First you choose a pair of frames. Many stores allow you to upload a photo and try on the glasses virtually. You can either decide on a model straight away or have a selection sent to your home. Once you have selected a pair of glasses on the Internet, enter your prescription.

Do I also get an eye test?

Not necessarily. There are two options for buying glasses online: Some online stores work with partner opticians who determine your eyesight. With others, you have to have an eye test done at your own expense or take the values from your existing spectacle pass. Sometimes you can also measure the centering values yourself using a template. However, glasses are first and foremost medical aids and only secondarily fashion accessories. It is better to have the values determined by an expert.

For whom can buying online be worthwhile?

Above all for people who already have a lot of experience with glasses, such as those who only want to buy a second pair. Glasses with window lenses can also be easily purchased online.
