Carnival 2017: last-minute costumes for those who decide at short notice

Weiberfastnacht marks the official opening of the fifth season. Whether you greet the next five days with "Helau" or "Alaaf", toast with Kölsch or Alt, all carnival revellers have one thing in common: the best way to celebrate is in costume. For last-minute carnival revellers, we have three great last-minute costume ideas that you won't even notice were created at the last minute.

Still haven't found the right costume for carnival? These three ideas will work even at the last minute!

Roman woman

You don't need more than an opaque, white piece of fabric to dance through the carnival as an elegant Roman. Whether it's a bedspread or bed sheet - you're sure to find something like this in your household. Now wrap this piece of fabric twice around your chest like a towel. Pull the end lying on your back out over your shoulder and knot it with the front corner. To complete the Roman look, tie a cord around your waist as a belt. You are sure to have leather sandals in Roman style in your closet at home, otherwise 'normal' sandals that you can pimp up with a few leather laces will do.

It's getting fruity

Fruit and vegetables are popular last-minute costumes, because you don't need much. This year, we suggest the sweet pineapple as a costume option. All you need is a complete look in yellow, a green headdress and a brown fabric crayon, which you can use to draw on little Vs. If you're a bit crafty, you can make a green hairpiece or fascinator out of papier-mâché.

Meow!

Cat is also a very popular costume that can be made at the very last minute. You either still have a headband with ears in your costume stash or you can buy one. Then the costume is as good as finished. Simply dress completely in black, gray or white, draw a snub nose and whiskers with a black eyeliner pencil and you're done!
