The nasty scam of the con artists
Nowadays, shopping is easy with just a few clicks on your smartphone. This is exactly what fraudsters exploit and send deceptive links or advertising banners to users. All it takes is an accidental swipe and you've already ordered a paid subscription - the rude awakening usually comes with the completely overpriced cell phone bill.
Well prepared from the start
Set up a so-called third-party provider block with your mobile phone company. This means that only the costs for phone calls, Internet use and text messages can be debited. The only disadvantage is that even useful services such as ticket apps will no longer work if they are charged to your phone bill.
Defending yourself against services you did not order
Anyone who has fallen into a subscription trap should not pay the amount demanded on the cell phone bill and should lodge an objection with the mobile phone provider by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt. If the money is collected automatically, claim the amount back from the subscription provider. You can find out exactly who this is by using the contact details on the bill. Further tips and sample letters are available online from the consumer advice center.
